Bamfield is characterized by both oceanfront and off-water houses (some with views and some without). The non-waterfront houses typically sell between $500,000 and $1,000,000. The waterfront properties sell upwards of $1,000,000.

About Bamfield, BC

Bamfield has often been called the “Venice of the Pacific” because the inlets running in from Barkley Sound act as the main thorough fares. You’re more likely to get around by boat than vehicle. Don’t worry, for those without vehicles there are reliable water taxi service to get you to and from your home.

Bamfield is the traditional home, or ḥahuułi, of the Huu-ay-aht First Nation. The people of the Nation make up a vibrant part of the of the Bamfield community and economy. Huu-ay-aht First Nations is a self-governing, modern treaty Nation. Whrever you walk in Bamfield, know that the Huu-ay-aht people have been walking there for thousands of years.

Bamfield is divided into three major, and district, neighbourhoods. East Bamfield is where the road from Port Alberni arrives. It is the largest neighbourhood characterized by waterfront properties on the tidal inlets as well as a large number of off-water properties. West Bamfield has its own inland road system, but is only accessible by boat. It’s waterfront properties include those along the famous Bamfield Boardwalk in the harbour, as well as the only oceanfront properties overlooking open Barkley Sound. There are also a number of off-water properties. Grappler Inlet is a third distinct neighbourhood comprising of mostly waterfront properties on the tidal inlet that bares its name.

Bamfield Amenities

There are plenty of things to do in Bamfield including world class salt water fishing, scuba diving, whale watching, kayaking, and hiking. There are a number of small parks, halls, and the Bamfield Health Centre. There are markets on both the east and west side of Bamfield, and a number of restaurants. The City of Port Alberni is the largest community with expanded amenities and is only 1.25 hours away by road.

Bamfield is serviced by a community water system provided by the Alberni Clayoquot Regional District, power by BC Hydro, has great cellular phone signal, and internet options.
